Description

Let's go back to the Age of Enlightenment, to the 18th century, where sensitivity clashes with refinement. Barry Lyndon, to whom this fragrance is dedicated, is a character from William Makepeace Thackeray's novel, on which Ryan O'Neal and Stanley Kubrick based their film of the same title. Barry Lyndon rides on horseback, the sound of hooves echoing through the fog that covers the muddy, rural paths leading through the moors. The scent of fresh saddle leather mixes with the morning air. In this fragrance, I tried to capture the vibrant harmony of the untouched mountains that I enjoyed while hiking in the Italian Alps in Val d'Aosta.

"For the scent of Barry Lyndon, I chose a very special and rare variety of lavender, stoechas, which only grows in the Alps, at an altitude above 2,500 meters, where it has been used as a natural home fragrance since ancient times."

Wormwood is an herb that is used in absinthe, the famous "green fairy" that seduced Vincent Van Gogh, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Charles Baudelaire, Edgar Allan Poe, and many other artists.

About the brand Maria Candida Gentile

Maria Candida graduated from the prestigious perfumery school in Grasse. She is close to the philosophy of slow factory, and uses only the best natural ingredients in her compositions, often sourced from small, organic farms. She creates honest, "personal" scents, in contrast to the mainstream. Each one tells a different story.

"My first memory is related to roses from my family's garden. When they were in bloom, I would gather the petals and make my own rose water, which I would then pour into bottles and give to my family. As I grew up, it became clear to me that creating perfumes is the passion of my life. I believe that a good scent is one that works well for the person wearing it. This effect can only be achieved with natural essences that speak to our body and mind, and that we instinctively love," she says.

Reviews of Barry Lyndon

French lavender (Landula Stoechas) is used here, which only grows in the Alps at high altitudes. Its combination with wormwood (artemezja) creates a strongly herbal opening, in which a hint of floral genetics is also present. Other, less floral notes also appear, such as heather and arnica. All of this leads to a leathery and vetiver base, creating a scent of saddle and grassy pasture.
