Description
The Rosa fragrance from Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella is a bouquet of floral notes that evoke the characteristic scent of the queen of perfumes, Rosa centifolia (hundred-petaled rose) or May rose. The rose has a long history dating back to the time of the Sumerians and is mentioned in the "Iliad." In the 5th century BC, the essence of Chinese rose was used exclusively by the emperor and nobility at court. In ancient Rome, rose petals were scattered on the streets during festivals, and garlands of roses were worn and guests were sprayed with rose water during home parties. In the archives of Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, it can be found that Dominican monks from Santa Maria Novella were already selling rose water in 1381. The symbolism of the flower varies depending on its color. White roses symbolize innocence, red roses passion, and yellow roses symbolize infidelity and jealousy.

Florence is home to one of the oldest pharmacies in the world - Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, which dates back to the 13th century. Famous scents and skincare products have been created for centuries from a blend of flowers and herbs collected from the hills of Tuscany, maturing in old terracotta jars. Among the compositions still produced today according to Dominican formulas are Acqua di Colonia (Catherine de' Medici's favorite scent), created in the 17th century Acqua di Santa Maria Novella, and Acqua di Rose - an excellent refreshing tonic, sold since the second half of the 14th century, as well as hand-shaped and packaged soaps, which mature for 60 days in ventilated cabinets.
All products are made exclusively in Florence, based on medicinal plants and herbs grown in the same way as in the Middle Ages.

A true breath of spring, perfect for summer days as it is not overwhelming. When I last used it before my sister's birthday garden party (and wore an Italian green linen dress - watch out, Vesper!), a few feminine noses enjoyed this scent all day long.
