O zapachu
The secret lies in the concentration.
Perfume extract, eau de parfum, cologne or eau de toilette? When choosing a scent we rely on intuition and, perhaps, price, but do we really know what distinguishes the different types of fragrances?

The whole secret lies in the concentration, that is the amount of fragrance concentrate (a blend of natural and synthetic oils) diluted in alcohol. The strength and longevity of the scent depend on the proportions in which they are mixed.
Perfume or Extract (Pure Perfume, Parfum, Extrait de Parfum)
The richest and most concentrated form of fragrance currently available — contains from 15% to 40% concentrate. It is said that perfume extract, thanks to such a high concentration, reveals the true soul of the scent. Perfumes are dense, rich and long-lasting — just a few drops are enough to notice them. But paradoxically, despite that power, they are at the same time more intimate than a spray eau de toilette. More noticeable up close than from a distance (if you hug someone wearing perfume, you will smell it for many hours afterwards).

Eau de parfum (Eau de parfum, EDP)
This is the most common category in perfumery — the concentration of fragrance oils ranges from 15% to 20%. The greater amount of alcohol makes it evaporate more easily and gives it greater projection. The scent of eau de parfum is distinct and should last on the skin throughout the day. Interestingly, according to the classic olfactory pyramid the middle, i.e. the heart notes, play the main role here and will be the most noticeable.
Eau de toilette (Eau de toilette, EDT)
It contains on average from 5% to 15% fragrance concentrate. It is decidedly lighter, more ephemeral and less noticeable than eau de parfum. You could say that eau de toilette was created to be worn during the day (e.g. to the office), and eau de parfum for the evening. From experience we know that many people choose this form of their favorite scent for summer.

Eau de cologne (Eau de cologne, EDC)
The original eau de cologne formula consisted mainly of citrus notes with added herbs and was definitely associated with men. Today, this name refers to various fresh compositions (also called Eau Fraiche), in which the concentration of fragrance concentrate does not exceed 5%. It has no base notes and does not last well on the skin, and the scent dissipates after just a few hours. It is more of a refreshing gesture than actual perfuming.
If you're wondering what to choose, the simplest way is to ask yourself how intense you want the scent to be.
