Along the route grew one solitary acacia tree - the only sign of life in the ocean of sand. It was the most isolated tree in the world, located 150 km away from any others.
The acacia, simply known as the Tree of Ténéré, was the last surviving plant from a time when the desert was not as dry - thanks to its roots reaching deep into an underground basin over 30 meters below the desert. It is easy to understand why the Tuareg caravan leaders, experts in surviving in the desert, valued this tree and its incredible resilience. Breaking its branches for firewood or allowing camels to eat its leaves was considered sacrilege.
This most solitary tree in the world was one of the few landmarks along the Azalai, a sacred testament to resilience and vitality that for centuries guided caravans on their way. Despite this and the fact that it was the only obstacle for many kilometers, a drunk truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel collided with the acacia in 1973 and took its life.

Stora Skuggan is an independent Stockholm-based olfactory studio, founded by five versatile creators. Since their debut in 2015, they have gained a reputation as a niche brand that reinterprets the art of perfume making. Their trademarks? Poetic storytelling, complexity and variability of scents (we strongly encourage testing on skin, not on blotters), packaging - small glass bottles topped with a large (almost as big as the bottle itself) spherical cap. What's more, each packaging stands out with unique, three-dimensional graphics.
And the scents themselves? One of a kind, abstract, intriguing, unconventional, mystical. Their creators do not impose interpretations, they do not tell you what to feel - after all, everyone feels differently.
