Dawno temu, zanim Portugalia stała się Portugalią, król Maurów Ibn-Almundim rządził miastem Chelb (dziś Silves) w Algarve. Ze swych podbojów przywiózł wielu jeńców, w tym Gildę, piękną królową z północnych ziem.

Początkowo Gilda była nawet zadowolona, ale jej nastrój się pogarszał, bo tęskniła za bielą śniegu. Uzdrowiciele nie potrafili uleczyć jej smutku.
