Mistpouffer is an unexplained, natural sound resembling a distant cannon shot, which seems to come from the fog over lakes or rivers. It has been recorded worldwide throughout history and has given rise to many legends. In Japan, this phenomenon is called uminari, which means "cries from the sea". In Connecticut, Machimoodus State Park owes its name to a Native American word meaning "place of bad sounds".
Despite scientific attempts to understand the sounds (which can still be heard today), their source has not yet been identified. Possible explanations include solar winds resonating in the atmosphere, underground earthquakes, or gas bubbles released from the depths. Others believe it to be the work of extraterrestrial or underground civilizations.
The first settlers in North America were informed by the Native American Haudenosaunee that these were the sounds of the Great Spirit continuing its work of shaping the land.
Recreating this mystical thunder of water as a scent was just as elusive as the sound itself. The brand's creators spent four years and hundreds of iterations before finding the right balance between being distinctive and inexplicable. Misty, but not watery, smoky, but not heavy. Equally natural and supernatural.

Stora Skuggan is an independent Stockholm-based olfactory studio, founded by five versatile creators. Since their debut in 2015, they have gained a reputation as a niche brand that reinterprets the art of perfume making. Their trademarks? Poetic storytelling, complexity and variability of scents (we strongly encourage testing on skin, not on blotters), packaging - small glass bottles topped with a large (almost as big as the bottle itself) spherical cap. What's more, each packaging stands out with unique, three-dimensional graphics.
And the scents themselves? One of a kind, abstract, intriguing, unconventional, mystical. Their creators do not impose interpretations, they do not tell you what to feel - after all, everyone feels differently.
