Description
Free dance is like a rite of passage, in which girls become women and boys become men. The feeling of being emotionally overwhelmed is limited by a certain awkwardness, and the stunning collision of innocence and experience, ignorance and knowledge, universal for people from different countries, cultures and times.
In this composition, resins and balms transform into enveloping and timeless sensuality. Incense, the scent of ancient religious rituals, now surrounds the ritual of modernity: free dance. The severity and nobility of the ingredients reflect the emotions they evoke. The top note, opoponax, or sweet myrrh, gives the scent a honeyed, smoky sensuality, accentuated by a rich, stunning breeze of amber. Labdanum among the heart notes provides a creamy softness to the composition, while geranium adds a sparkling freshness. The whole is covered with a veil of violet, a magical scent note, universal for both sexes and restoring balance to the universe. The base notes, vanilla and patchouli, anchor the composition, creating a contrast between charming sweetness and mystery, familiar and unknown, light and shadow, which suddenly appear next to each other.
For Ben Gorham, Slow Dance is an autobiography written in scent. In this composition, he recalls the turbulent moments of adolescence, when boys try to appear as men before they actually become them. The importance of these moments before crossing the threshold of adulthood, when boys and girls, women and men, are not so different and distant from each other, and mutual acceptance is born from deep sincerity - this is what the composition Slow Dance is all about.
