Evoking his subtle visions of undulating hills and steep cliffs, the economy of his color palette and instinctive understanding of how even the lightest touch of green or blue can alter perspective, Downland begins with a wave of salty air and elemi, maturing into a warm base of hay, sandalwood, and vetiver.
This fragrance, much like the strategically placed shadows in Nicholson's paintings, has depth and complexity. It is fresh and invigorating, yet otherworldly in its simplicity.
