animal accord, vetiver, sandalwood treeOne late afternoon, as I sat at my desk and contorted myself trying to recreate the scent of an elephant, while jotting down perfume recipes, I experienced a kind of vision. I imagined elephants running through fields of roses, carrying with them a blend of floral scents mixed with the intense aroma of their bodies. As I balanced and sniffed my formula, after testing it on my skin, I realized that I had succeeded. I had used Turkish rose. This scent was created by combining two different recipes using the "dans le tiroir" method, which allowed me to fuse animal notes with leather and floral notes.
Origin of the name:
The elephant is a memory of Indian and African colonies, while the rose is an English rose. The clash of the elephant with the roses has a touch of British humor. There is an assonance with the name of the London district Elephant & Castle.
Maria Candida graduated from the prestigious perfumery school in Grasse. She is close to the philosophy of slow factory, and uses only the best natural ingredients in her compositions, often sourced from small, organic farms. She creates honest, "personal" scents, in contrast to the mainstream. Each one tells a different story.
"My first memory is related to roses from my family's garden. When they were in bloom, I would gather the petals and make my own rose water, which I would then pour into bottles and give to my family. As I grew up, it became clear to me that creating perfumes is the passion of my life. I believe that a good scent is one that works well for the person wearing it. This effect can only be achieved with natural essences that speak to our body and mind, and that we instinctively love," she says.
