Terror & Magnificence draws inspiration from the works of architect Nicholas Hawksmoor (1661-1736). Sinister buildings according to his designs are a characteristic feature in the landscape of London. Hawksmoor, known as a diabolical architect, continues to fascinate. By designing unique churches, he combined Egyptian elements with traditional church style. These astonishing architectural details, as well as the presumed membership in the Masonic lodge, have sparked speculation about the influence of occult symbolism on his work and added even more horror and grandeur to it.
Contrasting darkness with the exciting richness, perfumer Pia Long has created a lively, fragrant story about a man, his work, and his legend. Accords of Somali incense, dry wood, and wet stones blend with opium smoke, papyrus, and kyphi, enhanced by a base of Haitian vetiver, labdanum, benzoin, and myrrh.
Comment by Pia Long: I have a feeling that the scent we have just created has existed forever; as if we have summoned an ancient legend.

About the brand Beaufort
The brand was created by musician and writer Leo Crabtree, who has been fascinated by scents and the dark side of British history throughout his life. These two currents are the driving force behind the entire collection. As he says: "The sea, its traditions and superstitions, and the associated lifestyle - all of this is a part of me. The name comes from the 1805 scale of wind strength and serves as a structure within which we try to express ourselves as a brand."
Beaufort fragrances are created in close collaboration with the most distinguished British perfumers and are meant to reflect the collective national subconscious. For example, Iron Duke was created in honor of Arthur Wellesley - the Duke of Wellington, a rider, soldier, politician, and avid lover of tailoring. It is built on notes of leather, tobacco, rum, and... gunpowder.
Reviews of Terror & Magnificence
If you have ever visited a baroque church, you know that often you can smell the smoke of countless incense and candles - that scent has soaked into the stones from which the walls were built. The inclusion of so many types of church incense in Beaufort London Terror & Magnificence makes these perfumes much cleaner. Leo Crabtree, artistic director of the brand, and Pia Long, perfumer, captured the history of smoke in this scent.
