About the brand Byredo
Stockholm-based perfumery house, founded in 2006. Behind the global success and all the brand's creations stands founder and artistic director Ben Gorham. His multicultural background, bridging Canada, India and Sweden, is reflected in the unique character of Byredo perfumes.
"I am not a perfumer. I create a brief and show it to a professional scent creator. Images, film, poetry, music, words, objects, other scents - these are my inspirations... I have trained my nose. I had to learn a different language to communicate with perfumers, but over time I gained experience. From the very beginning, I have also been working with the same specialists. We understand each other perfectly" - says Gorham.

The Animalique campaign draws inspiration from the work of makeup artist Kabukis Starshine. Byredo founder Ben Gorham fell in love with the iconic portrait created by Richard Burbridge and Kabuki, based on one of the characters Kabuki portrayed in clubs - an androgynous hybrid of a human and lizard, which exemplified the vibrancy and extravagance of New York City's nightlife during its peak in the 90s. Because identity is fluid. In Animalique, it's about the freedom to show different facets.
